The Town of Natick Department of Public Works (DPW) seeks a Project Engineer to assist the Town Engineer and Assistant Town Engineer in the daily operation of the Engineering Division, including project management and administration of civil construction projects.
Duties And Responsibilities- Project management of large civil horizontal construction projects.
- Performs daily construction inspections on Roadway Improvement projects, measures production work and keeps records of material quantities provided by the contractor.
- Coordinates with contractors regarding progress of roadway improvement projects and ensures compliance with contract specifications.
- Reviews payment requisitions submitted by the contractor and approves/amends contract quantities based on work performed.
- Works with Town Engineer to prepare annual roadway contract (typical valuation $3.5M), updates and improves contract specifications and maintains currency with pavement improvement and installation techniques, ADA regulation and compliance and construction materials innovations to ensure quality of improvements.
- Assists Town Engineer with the planning for the 5‑Year roadway improvement Plan.
- Conducts field construction inspections on various public and private utility and site development projects to ensure compliance with Town of Natick standards and approved plans.
- Operates a surveyor’s level or beacon level; EDM‑Total Station; and GPS equipment to establish lines and grades on preliminary and final surveys as a member of a survey crew.
- Conducts special technical investigations and prepares reports associated with roadway sidewalk and municipal utilities; assists in the issuance of various permits and performs the associated field inspections and preparation of record sketches and as‑built plans.
- Must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or project management and a current Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience, with particular emphasis on public works engineering and construction management.
- A combination of education, experience and training can be considered if it is demonstrated that the required knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Have and maintain a Class D Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.

Hiring Range: $77,329.65–$ (commensurate with education and experience) with an approximate $10,000 in additional incentives/stipends for those who qualify.
