Job DescriptionThe IT Security Analyst is a hands‑on role responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the town and the school district’s physical campuses and digital infrastructure. The position bridges the gap between physical security and cybersecurity to safeguard students, staff, and assets. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in IT operations within an educational or public‑sector setting, and be able to conduct threat assessments, incident response, and implement risk mitigation solutions in both physical and digital environments.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT operations and/or a security-related role (physical and/or cyber).
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as CIS Critical Security Controls, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, including incident response procedures.
- Familiarity with K‑12 education compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with municipal departments and operations (Police (CJIS), Fire, Libraries, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check.
- Relevant certifications (CISA, CISM, CISSP, Security+, CEH, CPP) preferred.
- Experience in K‑12 or public‑education/municipal environment preferred.
- Experience working with vendors and managing security projects.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts data privacy laws, student data privacy laws, and school safety procedures.
- Cybersecurity: proactive audits, vulnerability scans, penetration testing, incident investigation and reporting, secure deployment of new technologies, cybersecurity awareness training, phishing campaigns, FERPA and CIPA compliance, data‑privacy agreements.
- Physical security: evaluate, implement, maintain, and document systems such as access control, CCTV, alarms, paging, radios, visitor‑management; conduct audits and risk assessments; collaborate with law enforcement; develop emergency response procedures; support installation of security hardware.
- General duties: manage special projects assigned by the Chief Technology Officer, stay current on industry trends, investigate new technologies and recommend solutions.
Physical Requirements
- Work in office and school/municipal settings; occasional travel between sites.
- Must be available during emergency response.
- Move within classrooms, schools, office, and off‑site locations; sometimes over uneven surfaces.
- Operate computers and related equipment.
- Read documents from monitor and printed material; maintain files and access materials.
- Communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, staff.
- Observe details at close range; ensure safety of students.
- Multitask and meet multiple demands; lift up to 25 lbs.
- Tolerate moderate to loud ambient noise.
$120,000 – $135,000 per year; full‑time benefits eligible.
