The Town of Natick is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join its Facilities Maintenance Department as a full‑time Maintenance V‑HVAC & Building Management Systems Technician. The Town's preference is to appoint a candidate at the Maintenance V‑HVAC & Building Management Systems level; however, candidates whose qualifications and experience more closely align with the Maintenance IV classification may also be considered.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced technician to play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing the mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and building automation systems that support the Town's municipal facilities. The successful candidate will help ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Town buildings through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, system monitoring, and ongoing operational support.

The ideal candidate will possess the required certifications, extensive HVAC and controls experience, and a proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment and building management system issues. Working as a key member of the Facilities Maintenance Team, this individual will support all aspects of facility operations, maintenance, and capital improvement projects while contributing to the long‑term performance and sustainability of Town‑owned facilities.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and building management system (BMS) maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation work.
  • Work from oral and written instructions, sketches, blueprints, specifications, and technical diagrams.
  • Perform all work in accordance with applicable state and national HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical codes.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot building automation and controls systems.
  • Coordinate with and oversee outside contractors performing HVAC‑related projects and services.
  • Support other maintenance trades and assist with a wide range of facilities maintenance activities as needed.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to less experienced staff or student employees when assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventory, stock lists, and maintenance documentation.
  • Obtain permits on behalf of the Town when required.
  • Operate maintenance management software, work order systems, and building automation platforms.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all Town safety policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with Town departments to provide responsive and professional customer service.
  • Participate in after‑hours emergency response, on‑call assignments, overtime work, and support for Town events as needed.
  • Assist with snow and ice operations as part of the Town's snow removal team; plowing experience is preferred.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Refrigeration License strongly preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification required.
  • Massachusetts Electrical Class D (Systems Technician) License preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation controls.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and national HVAC codes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, control diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email, web‑based systems, and maintenance management software.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, continuing education, and required safety training.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Compensation

The Town of Natick offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including participation in the Massachusetts public pension system, 13 paid holidays, medical and dental insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, educational assistance opportunities, and other valuable benefits.

This is a full‑time, non‑exempt, benefited position. The starting salary range for Fiscal Year 2027 is as follows:

Maintenance V: $38.5777 to $47.4458 per hour, with future step increases in accordance with the Maintenance and Facilities Local 1116 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Maintenance IV: $35.9054 to $43.0956 per hour, with future step increases in accordance with the Maintenance and Facilities Local 1116 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The appointment level will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, certifications, and demonstrated abilities.
