Skilled Laborer/Collector - Highway/Sanitation Division
The candidate we seek will be responsible for curbside collection of trash and recycling but will sometimes operate multiple pieces of light and heavy equipment, perform manual physical labor in roadway maintenance operations, and carry out winter sidewalk snow and ice clearing. The position reports to a Foreman and a General Foreman.
This is a great opportunity to learn to drive CDL vehicles and other medium/heavy equipment. It is an entry‑level position with growth potential.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months upon hire.
- Three (3) years of experience in construction, landscaping, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Sign making/line striping experience is a plus.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work in all weather conditions, and perform physically demanding labor.
- Familiarity with the operation of light and heavy‑duty equipment.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and the general public.
- Successfully completing a CORI check and DOT pre‑employment physical including a drug screen.
- Hoisting license or other relevant certifications.
- Experience with municipal or public works operations.
- Paid on‑the‑job training.
- Work schedule:
Monday to Thursday (7:00 am‑4:00 pm) and Friday (7:00 am‑12:00 pm). - Insurance benefits covered on the first day of hire (no waiting period).

$24.5240 per hour at Step 1. The full pay scale ranges from $24.5240 to $33.2152 per hour, with step increases outlined in the union agreement. This full‑time position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and a defined‑contribution retirement plan.
