The Facilities Mechanic Journeyperson must be able to work independently on a daily basis, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, piping, and electrical systems. Responsibilities include sharing weekend watch duties and working up to 30 hours when necessary for dry-docking evolutions.

Additional duties include:

• Working under the direction of the Dockmaster
• Supervising and scheduling tasks for other dock mechanics
• Operating POSD/POCA control consoles, trolley systems, capstans, and anchor windlasses
• Operating switchboards, motor controllers, and automation systems
• Qualified line handling, welding, and gas burning
• Maintaining preventative and corrective maintenance records for POSD/POCA
• Operating diesel generators and paralleling switchboards
• Supporting yard trades as needed
• Operating forklifts and aerial lifts
• Inspecting and maintaining POSD/POCA mooring equipment
• Possessing and maintaining all necessary safety and environmental certifications
• Hooking up and disconnecting dock and ship services in POSD/POCA
• Assisting in creating docking schedules
• Understanding safe rigging practices and interpreting blueprints and schematics
• Having a general knowledge of marine terminology
• Possessing computer skills in Microsoft Office

Minimum of 5 years of related experience in shipyard repair or Navy vessels is required.

This is a 1st shift position, 40 hours a week, with overtime available upon approval.
