About the JobAs a NorcomCT Communications Programming Technician (Technical Support Specialist) you will provide best‑in‑class support to keep client mission‑critical systems up and available every day. You will work at our Naugatuck location, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and may be required to travel in company vehicles to customer locations or training events.
CompensationPay Rate: $27.00 to $36.00 per hour ($56,000–$75,000 annually base pay). Pay rate depends on skills, experience, training/education, certifications, and licenses. Benefits include medical, dental, disability, and life insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and paid holidays.
Responsibilities- Assembly, programming, and configuration of radios and other equipment.
- Operational checks of equipment.
- Preventative maintenance and support of equipment and systems in‑house and at customer locations.
- Reception and inventory of incoming orders.
- Create and manage cases and update information in a CRM/case management system.
- Communicate with customers to determine response level required for service requests.
- Coordinate service, installation, and project tasks with internal and external customers.
- Answer and address technical support phone calls from customers and team members.
- Demonstrate equipment features and provide end‑user operational training.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and, when necessary, elevate problems in a timely manner while following standards and approaches.
- Work with customers to determine required equipment and services, and provide supporting details to the sales team for quoting.
- Ensure orders are complete after configuration of equipment.
- Manage project inventory and release of equipment.
- Be flexible and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
- Technical aptitude and enthusiasm for working with technology.
- Experience as a public safety end‑user, first responder, two‑way radio user, amateur radio user, or equivalent.
- Basic electronics, Windows PC, server, and networking experience, including: switches and relays, use of a voltmeter, basic network configuration, Windows file navigation, component troubleshooting and replacement, Windows OS installation and configuration, and understanding of domain and Active Directory.
- Ability to explain technical information in clear, understandable terms.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Positive, friendly, team‑oriented attitude with internal and external customers.
- Self‑starter ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Background checks, drug test, physical, and proficiency tests required initially and possibly ongoing.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, web browsers, and other standard Windows programs.
- Ability to lift 60–70 pounds of equipment occasionally and travel out of state for training as needed.
- Commitment to honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior.
- Three or more years of customer/internal technical support experience.
- Experience with public safety radio equipment programming.
- Experience with amateur (HAM) radio equipment programming.
