Shifts: Second Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm OR Third Shift 9:30pm - 6:00am
The Eyelet Toolmaker is responsible for planning and laying out work, and performing difficult and exacting bench and machine operations to construct, fit, and assemble highly complicated eyelet tools, dies, and gauges where accurate application of extended experience and a very high degree of ability are required.
Essential Functions- Fabricates, assembles and grooms complicated tools for eyelet machines and transfer presses, involving roll feeds, automatic operation, special attachments, intricate am and lever devices, carriers and slides, for handling and positioning parts through various tool stations which require intricate assembly and timing of multiple parts and intensive die form development.
- Ensures effective operation of all jobs by maintaining production and quality standards; assists with job training activities as required.
- Performs troubleshooting on jobs as required by production and quality requirements and makes appropriate changes as needed.
- Constructs within estimated costs a limited variety of tools for eyelet machines and transfer presses to perform operations such as blank, cup, draw, strip draw, pierce, clip, letter, form, collapse, swell, cone, flare, knurl, thread, bead, skive, nib, etc., and makes gauges for checking products made by these tools.
- Receives layout or makes general layout from detailed instructions supplied by manager or tooling engineer; may work under direction of technical manager to assist in construction of components and assemblies of more complicated tools, make tool tryouts and set up machines.
- Plans and performs a sequence of tool room machine operations where methods are available for work involving close tolerances and fits requiring judgment to make general decisions on quality, tolerances, etc.
- Proficient in the operation of manual equipment, such as lathes, millers and surface grinders.
- Maintains an excellent attendance record, keeps workplace neat and orderly at all times, and can work overtime as needed on short notice.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or completion of an in‑company, five‑year training program to satisfaction of the Plant Training Committee.
- Possesses a high degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required.
- High degree of attention and care required to prevent injury to self and others when operating machine tools.
