ROSS RIVER SCHOOL (RRS) – Ross River
Home to the Kaska Dena people, Ross River school is one of 11 Yukon schools that have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Kaska is the traditional language of the Kaska Dena people.
Ross River School is a K-12 school with approximately 55 students. We are actively seeking committed and qualified School Wellness Specialists who are dedicated to living in and being an active member of the community and who can adapt well to a remote lifestyle. Our educational professionals value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of Ross River.

The School Wellness PositionThe School Wellness Specialist works in collaboration with the Kaska Dena First Nation and school staff, while receiving clinical oversight from Student Support Services, to provide a broad range of direct supports and consultation services to students, families, and staff at Ross River School.
The position works collaboratively with learners, families, First Nation Government, community service providers, and educators to identify learners concerns and to provide supportive services which contribute to the success of all learners. The position plays an important role in working in partnership with the First Nation to localize and provide supports, grounded in Kaska First Nation ways.

- Experience providing social work-related services, which may encompass assessments, consultation, case management, counselling, crisis intervention, and/or referrals.
- Experience of fering social and emotional support to children and youth.
- Training in Restorative practices, Critical Incident Stress Response/Debriefing and/or Violent Threat Risk Assessment
- Experience working in rural settings is an asset
- Experience working in partnership with First Nation community to localize supports is a preferred asset
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
