Position InformationWayne State College is seeking an Academic Advisor to work in the new Academic and Career Success Center.
Responsibilities- 1. Serve as an academic advisor for primarily first year and undeclared students. May also advise specific cohort groups as needed.
- 2. Contact students identified as at risk and develop a recovery plan.
- 3. Document, analyze, evaluate, and track student academic, personal, and professional progress through case management software.
- 4. Provide academic, career, financial, individual, and group coaching to students.
- 5. Facilitate career placement services and resources for students and alumni including building a network of potential employers and facilitating internship opportunities.
- 6. Plan, prepare, and implement program activities and initiatives (such as meet your advisor events, career fairs and networking events, mock interviews, and other programs that connect students with employers).
- 7. In coordination with the Director-Academic and Career Service Center, supervise, hire, and train peer tutors, including identifying subject areas in high demand by students, tutor schedule development, and facilitate supplemental instruction tutoring program.
- 8. Coach students in identifying academic and career goals and help them develop strategies to reach those goals (such as resume building, networking, CLEP testing, and other skill development).
- 9. Work directly with students to improve student writing skills across the curriculum.
- 10. Refer students to campus resources as needed.
- 11. Register students during New Student and Transfer Registration events and assist with other aspects of New Student Registration (NSR) program days.
- 12. Meet with prospective students and their families to explain and answer questions about WSC academic and support programs.
- 13. Liaise with assigned Wayne State College School and cross-train within unit.
- 14. Lead retention efforts by identifying students in academic need, contacting them, and developing a plan toward academic and career success.
- 15. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Student Personnel, or closely related field
- Experience with student case management software
- Two or more years of experience in Supplemental Instruction, Peer Tutoring mentorship programs or related academic support areas in higher education
Salary Information:
Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive and comprehensive benefit package. Annual salary range is $51,404- $64,256.
