Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned classes and perform related duties as set forth under Job Tasks.
  • Provide reasonable care and safety of students under the teacher’s supervision.
  • Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities as assigned.
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to supervisor and administer medication as assigned.
  • Participate in team meetings for development of IEPs and 504 Plans and implement provisions.
  • Participate in faculty committees and sponsor activities as assigned.
  • Participate in professional activities and staff development as needed to maintain professional competence.
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Care for District property in the teacher’s custody, ensuring proper maintenance and security.
  • Utilize instructional materials and technology, including computer, e‑mail, and electronic student information systems, in a competent and effective manner.
  • Adhere to all district policies, rules, regulations, and supervisor directives.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and NDE Rule 27, serving as a positive role model for staff and students.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Job Tasks
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Perform supervision duties such as assisting in school libraries, performing hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  • Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate them to students.
  • Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or State requirements.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that gives students opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  • Assign and grade class work and homework.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
  • Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
  • Implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
  • Provide materials for learning activities and imaginative play.
  • Use computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment to supplement presentations.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Organize and lead activities promoting physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities.
  • Administer standardized tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and needs.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning.
  • Meet with parents, guardians, and professionals to discuss student progress.
