Position Overview
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in French to teach undergraduate courses in French language, culture, literature, linguistics, and/or film (beginners to advanced learners).
Areas of Specialization- French Language, Introductory to Advanced
- French/Francophone Culture, Intermediate to Advanced
- French/Francophone Literature, Intermediate to Advanced
- French Linguistics, Intermediate to Advanced
This pool is called upon as needed; appointments are temporary and often made shortly before the academic term begins. Applicants must be available on short notice.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in French language, culture, literature, linguistics, and/or film.
- Prepare syllabi, assignments, and reading materials for assigned courses.
- Engage with a diverse student body and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
- Participate in performance evaluations as required by the department and collective bargaining agreement.
- Hold at least a master’s degree in French or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in French to teach lower‑division courses.
- Be a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in French or a related field with native‑like fluency to teach 300‑level courses.
- Hold a Ph.D. in French or a related field with native‑like fluency to teach 400‑level courses.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
- Have the legal right to work in the United States;
California State University, Fullerton does not sponsor work visas or permanent residence. - Residency in the State of California at the time of hiring; this requirement cannot be waived, even for online courses.
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
- Experience working with diverse populations and creating an inclusive learning environment.
- Relevant professional experience and additional professional capabilities.
All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only, with a classification range of $5,507–$6,677 per month, prorated to the number of units worked. Typical starting compensation for a three‑unit assignment ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
