Responsibilities- Teach assigned classes and perform related duties as set forth under Job Tasks.
- Provide reasonable care and safety of students under the teacher’s supervision.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities as assigned.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect to supervisor and administer medication as assigned.
- Participate in team meetings for development of IEPs and 504 Plans and implement provisions.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsor activities as assigned.
- Participate in professional activities and staff development as needed to maintain professional competence.
- Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Care for District property in the teacher’s custody, ensuring proper maintenance and security.
- Utilize instructional materials and technology, including computer, e‑mail, and electronic student information systems, in a competent and effective manner.
- Adhere to all district policies, rules, regulations, and supervisor directives.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and NDE Rule 27, serving as a positive role model for staff and students.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Perform supervision duties such as assisting in school libraries, performing hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate them to students.
- Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or State requirements.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that gives students opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
- Assign and grade class work and homework.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
- Prepare students for later grades by encouraging learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
- Implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
- Provide materials for learning activities and imaginative play.
- Use computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment to supplement presentations.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment to prevent injuries and damage.
- Organize and lead activities promoting physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities.
- Administer standardized tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and needs.
- Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
