American Studies - Part‑time Lecturer Pool

Position OverviewThe Department of American Studies invites applications for its Part‑time Lecturer Pool. The pool will provide faculty to teach a range of Undergraduate courses as needed. Appointments are typically one semester, with a preference for faculty who can work on very short notice. Fellows will be engaged as Lecturers in accordance with the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement and University policies.

- American Studies 201 – Introduction to American Studies
- American Studies 300 – Introduction to American Popular Culture
- American Studies 301 – American Experiences
- American Studies 324 – American Immigration Culture
- American Studies 332 – Science and Modern America
- American Studies 345 – The American Dream
- American Studies 395 – California Culture
Required
- Ph.D., ABD, or M.A. in American Studies or a related field
Preferred
- Demonstrated success in teaching diverse and culturally diverse student populations, including first‑generation college students
- Experience creating inclusive learning environments and fostering collaborative, supportive classroom dynamics
- Relevant professional experience enriching curriculum and outreach
Applicants must provide the following materials at the time of application:
- Classification range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
- Anticipated hiring range: up to $6,221 per month, not to exceed $6,221
- Full‑time base salary (15 units) prorated for units taught; 6 monthly payments per semester
- Typical 3‑unit assignment compensation: $6,608.40 – $7,465.20 per semester
Fall term: late August – mid‑December
Spring term: mid‑January – end of May
Summer sessions occasional
Regular performance evaluations are conducted by the department, following the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. Outcomes influence future teaching assignments.
