Japanese - Part-Time Lecturer Pool
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in Japanese to teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics, and/or film (beginners to advanced learners). Applicants should be able to teach lower‑division (100‑ and 200‑level) courses and higher‑level courses as outlined in the qualifications below.
Areas of Specialization- Japanese Language, Introductory to Advanced
- Japanese Culture, Intermediate to Advanced
- Japanese Literature, Intermediate to Advanced
- Japanese Linguistics, Intermediate to Advanced
- Candidates must hold at least a master’s degree in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Japanese to teach lower‑division courses.
- Candidates must be at least a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 300‑level courses.
- Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 400‑level courses.
- Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
- Applicants must reside in the State of California at the time of hiring; this requirement cannot be waived, even for online courses.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
- Preference will also be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.
Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
Salary and BenefitsAll part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
- Classification Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month.
- Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications: $5,501 - $6,221 per month (not to exceed $6,221).
- Typical starting compensation for a three‑unit assignment: $6,608.40 - $7,465.20 per semester.
