Responsibilities
- Contribute to students’ academic growth and development:
- Teaching: maintain subject knowledge and competence, create a conducive learning environment, respect student posture, organize course materials and objectives, present theories clearly, engage learners, coordinate handouts and online materials, incorporate new methodologies and technology, encourage independent thinking, remain flexible, provide office hours, assess progress, grade fairly, participate in program assessment, develop new courses, revise existing courses, and review program requirements.
- Advising: understand college policies, assist students in planning programs of study, provide academic and career guidance, offer tutoring and support resources, assist with enrollment management, schedule advising sessions, communicate promptly, and lead student organizations.
- Professional achievement and continual preparation:
- Participate in academic organizations related to teaching.
- Give scholarly presentations, workshops, or performances.
- Produce scholarly materials such as research manuscripts, articles, book reviews, musical arrangements, or works of art.
- Engage in professional development to enhance faculty performance.
- Seek external funding through grants and contracts related to the discipline.
- Provide evidence of achievement and significant contributions to the field.
- Maintain quality, originality, and breadth of perspective in work.
- Continue individual development and professional productivity.
- Professional services beyond teaching:
- Presentations on campus and in the community.
- Serve on departmental, school, and campus-wide committees and initiatives.
- Participate in accreditation and reaccreditation activities.
- Develop new courses consistent with institutional mission.
- Sponsor student organizations and participate in student activities.
- Provide leadership in professional organizations and foster collegial relations.
- Secondary duties:
Perform other duties assigned by the Dean.
- Master’s degree in Theatre or a related discipline.
- Experience as a musical theatre practitioner in professional venues.
- Terminal degree required for tenure.
- Experience directing theatrical productions.
- Experience teaching at the college level.
- Successful background records check.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and in accordance with the SCEA agreement; excellent benefits package.
