Chinese Studies – Part‑Time Lecturer Pool
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in Chinese Studies to teach undergraduate courses in Chinese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics and/or film.
Areas of Specialization- Chinese Language, Introductory to Advanced
- Chinese Culture, Chinese Civilization, and Contemporary China
- Chinese for Business
- Chinese Literature, Intermediate to Advanced
- Chinese Linguistics
- Chinese Film
This is a pool of part‑time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when appropriate teaching assignments become available. Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term; applicants must be available on very short notice.
Required Qualifications- Hold at least a master’s degree in Chinese, Chinese Studies, or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Chinese to teach lower‑division (100‑200‑level) courses; or hold a Ph.D. (or be a Ph.D. candidate) in Chinese Studies or a related field and possess native‑like fluency to teach upper‑division (300‑level) courses.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
- Legal right to work in the United States of America. California State University, Fullerton cannot sponsor part‑time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.
- Must reside in the State of California at the time of hiring; this requirement cannot be waived, even for online courses.
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Relevant professional experience and capacity to bring professional capabilities to the classroom.
All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
• Classification Range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
• Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications: not to exceed $6,221 per month
• For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation: $6,608.40 – $7,465.20 per semester.
Academic CalendarThe need for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January through the end of May. Occasionally part‑time faculty are needed during Summer Session segments.
Performance EvaluationRegular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are made by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future teaching assignments. In some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading materials will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.
