Education Faculty-Literacy/Reading Specialist
The Education Department seeks a full-time faculty member with a primary teaching focus in reading and related areas as assigned by the Dean. This position plays an active role in advancing a collaborative, learner-centered environment and contributes to a culture of inquiry, critical reflection, and evidence-based practice across the department and institution.
Key Responsibilities- Teach courses in reading and related disciplines, ensuring instructional quality, student engagement, and inclusive learning environments.
- Develop and update course materials, incorporate new teaching methodologies, and use technology to enhance learning.
- Advising students on academic issues, career counseling, and enrollment management.
- Participate in program assessment, catalog revisions, and curriculum development.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as research, publishing, conference presentations, and external grant work as appropriate to faculty discipline.
- Provide professional services to the college, department, and community, including committee service, accreditation activities, and leadership of student organizations.
- Coordinate with the Dean and other faculty on departmental goals and policies.
Other duties as assigned by Dean.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in literacy/reading education, curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching reading.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in U.S. public school systems.
- For tenure-track positions, a terminal degree (earned Doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree) in a discipline related to the teaching assignment.
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in literacy/reading education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field.
- At least 18 graduate credit hours in literacy/reading at the doctoral level.
- Evidence of effective teaching and ongoing scholarly or professional engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to use technology to enhance student learning and expand access.
- Successful background record check required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Satisfactory evaluation of driving record required.
Salary:
Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Annual salary range approximately $48,493–$67,000, as allowed under the SCEA agreement. Comprehensive benefits package available.
