Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
- Under the direction of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Adjunct Instructor General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP), is responsible for instructing students in various ASEP courses (as needed), developing, and updating the program courses in a classroom/laboratory environment. This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the lab equipment and ASEP vehicles, advising students, and working with the program, IAGMASEP, and College committees.
This is a part-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
- Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses as Assigned Provide instruction to a diverse student population in the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP).Determine the appropriate material to be covered in the course(s) assigned to teach (subject to Associate Dean and Division Dean approval).Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses Develop new courses and update existing courses as required to keep the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP) current with industry standards and processes and General Motors requirements.
New course development includes writing course objectives, developing syllabi and course Information documents, developing handouts and tests and researching textbooks for course use.
Maintain and Upgrade GMASEPClassroom / Laboratory / Instructional Facilities / Equipment Maintain and Upgrade General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP) classroom laboratory, instructional facilities, and equipment to insure that it is maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.
Complete and Maintain Program and Student Records Responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught, and following and enforcing College policies regarding attendance, grading, and student achievement. Assist with the completion of purchase orders when ordering program instructional supplies and equipment. Complete production orders on all production projects and maintaining inventory records of all program equipment for the assigned laboratory areas.
Participate in Student Advising of program students as directed by the Dean of Transportation.
Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area(s)
Required to stay technically competent in all areas of teaching responsibilities by attending seminars, manufacturer web based and hands-on-training and certification assessments, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops, and self-study.
Participate in College and Program Activities and Committees Will attend, participate in and support all program activities (i.e. Workforce Leadership Team meetings, recruiting opportunities, division meetings, etc.) and College activities and committees as requested. Will act as student and technical advisor for the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP).Will advise General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP) students on academic standing, support and explain College policies and procedures with students, and complete all records, forms, etc.
as necessary for proper articulation and program operation.
Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors)
Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the vice president of instruction.
Professional Development Faculty will work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Director/Department Chair. The primary role of the Program Director/Department Chair is to ensure that through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Director reports to the Dean or Associate Dean of the Division.
