Vietnamese - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSUF invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in Vietnamese Studies to teach undergraduate courses in Vietnamese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics and/or film.

Areas of Specialization

We are seeking highly motivated, well‑organized individuals to teach in at least two of the following subject areas:

  • Vietnamese Language, Introductory to Advanced
  • Vietnamese Culture, Civilization, and Contemporary Vietnam
  • Vietnamese for Business
  • Vietnamese Literature
  • Vietnamese Linguistics
  • Vietnamese Film

This is a pool of part‑time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must hold at least a master’s degree in Vietnamese Studies or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Vietnamese to teach lower‑division (100‑ and 200‑level) courses; must hold a Ph.D. (or be a Ph.D. candidate) in Vietnamese Studies or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Vietnamese to teach upper‑division (300‑level) courses.
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
  • Legal right to work in the United States of America;
    California State University, Fullerton cannot sponsor part‑time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.
  • Must reside in the State of California at the time of hiring. This requirement cannot be waived even for online courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference to candidates with prior college or university level teaching experience and evidence of strong teaching.
  • Preference for those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Preference for those with relevant professional work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

    Part‑time faculty are most needed in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins late August and ends mid‑December; the Spring term runs mid‑January through end of May. On rare occasions, part‑time faculty are needed during a Summer Session segment.

    Performance Evaluation

    Regular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are conducted by the department per the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070.

    Appointment and Salary

    Appointments are as lecturers under the CSU system agreement. Initial appointments are one semester only. Classification range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month. Anticipated hiring range: up to $6,221 per month. Compensation for a three‑unit assignment ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.     Mandatory Reporter

    The position requires compliance with the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and CSU Executive Order 1083.
