Job DescriptionThis posting is for GHS and GEHS Seniors who will work in Gretna elementary and middle schools.

Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks- Provide assistance to students with special needs, non‑English‑speaking students, students with physical and mental disabilities, or other students as assigned.
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
- Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role‑playing methods.
- Organize and label materials and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye level and perceptual skills.
- Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.
- Use computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.
- Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
- Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education teachers, psychologists, speech‑language pathologists or other professionals.
- Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
- Assist in bus loading and unloading.
- Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

At‑Will PositionThis position is an “at‑will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
Essential FunctionsThe essential functions of the Para educator position include: (1) regular, dependable in‑person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which require effective teaching and communication skills; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements.
Physical Requirements- Stamina: sitting, walking, standing, sprinting/running.
- Flexibility: bending or twisting at the neck and trunk more than the average person.
- Activities:
climbing (e.g., ladders, large trucks), hand/grip strength, driving on the job, typing non‑stop. - Use of arms and hands: manual dexterity and finger dexterity.
- Lifting: up to 10 pounds, 11‑25 pounds, 26‑50 pounds, 51‑75 pounds, 76+ pounds.
- Pushing/pulling: 25‑50 pounds, 51‑75 pounds, 76‑90 pounds, >90 pounds.
- Carrying: 10‑25 pounds, 26‑50 pounds, 51‑75 pounds, 76‑90 pounds, >90 pounds.
