Position: Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional

Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional

Springfield Platte view Community Schools Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessionals will hold a High School Diploma or GED. A Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional will work approximately 177 Days per calendar year and up to 37.5 hours per week. A Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional will report directly to the Building Principal.

A Special Education (DLC) Paraprofessional, or Teaching Assistant, is responsible for providing hands-on support to a Teacher when preparing lessons or teaching students in the classroom. Their duties include helping with behavior management during lessons, tracking a student's grades and behavior and setting up classroom materials before class. The (DLC) Paraprofessional will strive to form interpersonal relationships with each student to help them feel more motivated about classroom achievement by understanding (IEP) Education Plans and following them.

Specific

Job Functions:
  • Support teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students with disabilities in the classroom.
  • Provide small group and/or individualized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with the students' IEP and the supervising teachers' lesson plans.
  • Collect instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.
  • Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.
  • Assist during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.
  • Assist with preparation of daily lesson plan materials and make copies of material for students.
  • When in a school based learning environment, monitors students' movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas, and cafeteria.
  • Assists students as necessary with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting and mobility.
  • Assists students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches, and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing.
  • Must possess excellent teamwork skills and the ability to remain calm and patient at all times.
  • Assist students who need additional help learning a specific concept.
  • Perform personal care and hygiene tasks for special education students. Implementing certain educational support services for special education students, as directed by the teacher.
  • All other duties as assigned.
