BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
The PTECH College Access Specialist supports the academic success, college readiness, and overall progress of students participating in the PTECH Advanced Manufacturing Academy (AMA). The position is responsible for providing high-quality program guidance while also serving as the primary day-to-day student support and coordination contact for students participating in high school and Austin Community College (ACC) coursework. The position provides structured academic support, study hall supervision, college-access advising, progress monitoring, communication, and logistical coordination to remove barriers to student success.
ENTRY
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATION:
Experience in dual credit programming, demonstrated competency in the assigned career and technical education subject area.
- Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) for assigned area.
- Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, evaluation, and refinement.
- Knowledge of college-access and dual-credit processes.
- Knowledge of effective instruction and evaluation methodologies.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement process.
- Skill in using technology as a learning tool in all content areas.
- Skill in engaging others in collective inquiry and problem solving.
- Skill in collecting, analyzing, and using data to support student learning.
- Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.
- Ability to support students enrolled in high school and college-level coursework.
- Ability to provide academic intervention, tutoring, and structured study support.
- Ability to serve as a liaison between students and professors and instructors.
- Ability to maintain effective communication with students, parents, teachers, professors,and campus administrators.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle student academic information.
- Ability to transport students to internships and job shadowing opportunities in a district vehicle

- Serve as a liaison between the school and dual credit partners.
- Work with dual credit and campus teams to ensure that early interventions are in place to support struggling students.
- Assist in ensuring that classroom materials, equipment, technology, and instructional resources are available and appropriately maintained.
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the PTECH program.
- Support dual credit classrooms to include working with students individually, in small groups, and within the classroom.
- Coordinate tutorials and ongoing study groups for students as needed throughout the semester.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Use instructional technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Support students in developing college and career readiness skills.
- Help students develop skills necessary for successful transition from high school to college and the workforce.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their academic progress and develop self-advocacy skills.
- Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
- Support students enrolled in various programs by implementing plans administered by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee, Section 504 Committee, Response to Intervention Committee and Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.
