Position Purpose

Project Engineer – Performs commissioning of electrical systems. Must be self‑motivated, energetic, and possess a comprehensive understanding of building electrical system design and construction. The role requires expertise in the commissioning process of electrical systems of varying size, rating, and complexity. The ideal candidate will have both theoretical and practical knowledge in the commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and related controls.

Responsibilities include reviewing project information; executing daily field activities; maintaining documentation; assisting Senior Project Engineers; and mentoring associate project engineers. Technical competency, strong organizational skills, and teamwork are essential.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities
  • Commission electrical distribution equipment and related controls, primarily in data center environments, including medium voltage systems.
  • Review system designs for compliance with client facility goals.
  • Assist in preparing plans and procedures for the commissioning process.
  • Conduct commissioning activities from the design phase through the occupation phase, following client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Attend factory testing of equipment and document procedures and results.
  • Conduct functional testing of equipment and measure results using test instrumentation.
  • Fully document all field procedures—including results, issues, and observations—using company templates or online applications.
  • Report on system performance and make technical recommendations on issues.
  • Work with project teams to coordinate and execute field activities.
  • Review and provide input on commissioning project documentation and schedules.
  • Assist in submitting and maintaining daily commissioning reports.
  • Assist in training Associate Project Engineers.
  • Respond to project team and client inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Comply with company, client, and project safety requirements.

    • High / Medium / Low Voltage Transformer (XFMR)
    • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems
    • Battery Systems
    • Medium / Low Voltage Switchgear (SWGR)
    • Low Voltage Main Switchboards (MSB)
    • PLC Control
    • Automatic and Semi‑Automatic Switching Controls
    • Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS)
    • Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)
    • Static Transfer Switch (STS)
    • Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
    • Busways
    • Remote Power Panel (RPP)
    • Grounding Systems
    • Lighting Control Systems
Qualifications
  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering with at least 2 years of mission‑critical project experience, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in commissioning with mission‑critical facility experience.
  • Experience in mission‑critical facility commissioning is essential.
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, analytical, proactive, and a strong problem solver.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines preferred.
  • Knowledge of NETA test specifications and distributed control systems a plus.
  • Reasonable understanding of building management systems (BMS) and/or electrical power monitoring system (EPMS).
  • Deep understanding and application of test instrumentation.
  • Team player with a client‑first mindset.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or a commissioning certification are a plus but not required.
Work Environment
  • Travel nationwide 50%–75%; may include periods of higher travel expectation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day.
  • Carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Wear required PPE daily.
