Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
Summary
This position requires in depth technical skills in mechanical design and analysis, including material selection, and fabrication methods. The successful candidate will have the desire and ability to interface with all levels of a manufacturing organization and have a proven track record as a design engineer. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, this design engineer will produce designs that meet cost, quality, reliability, performance, and service ability targets.
Required engineering skills include both analytical and "hands-on" abilities. Additional skill areas include creative design, cross functional teamwork, working with suppliers and manufacturing. Emergency vehicle design experience and strong working knowledge of engines, chassis, pumps and other mechanical systems is a plus.
- Interface with all areas of the Smeal team to determine product needs & specifications.
- Design, creation and management of models, drawings, bills of material and other pertinent engineering data.
- Evaluate, test and specify materials for cost reduction, quality improvement and/or new product introduction.
- Provide manufacturing process support.
- Provide engineering analysis for product applications.
- Evaluate current designs for product and cost improvement opportunities.
- Incorporation of engineering design changes into the manufacturing process.
- Other duties as assigned
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Candidates with a 2-year technical degree will also be considered.
- Minimum of 2-4 years experience in product and system development with background in complex machine or vehicle product design.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical, communication and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability in bringing engineering projects to completion, on time and within budget.
- Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
- Energetic, motivated, team player.
- Thorough understanding of the production manufacturing operations and design for manufacturability.
- Experienced in 2D and 3D CAD modeling systems (minimum of 4 years). Prefer someone with Solid Works and
- Demonstrated knowledge of materials specifications, properties, and processing techniques.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time and to walk and stand occasionally. The associate frequently is required to talk or hear. May be on the shop floor at times.
The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
