GAI Consultants is on the lookout for a talented Protection & Control Engineer to join our team, specializing in substation-related projects. This exciting position will focus on performing detailed design for protection and control systems in high-voltage substations up to 500kV. We prioritize a "Client First" approach in all interactions, ensuring the utmost satisfaction and support for our clients.
Job Responsibilities- Oversee and execute technical activities, ensuring high-quality standards through QA/QC checks.
- Revise and develop comprehensive drawings for one-lines, physical arrangements, grounding, schematics, and control panel layouts.
- Coordinate with CAD operators to deliver organized and quality CAD drawings.
- Design systems that interface with SCADA technologies, including RTUs, HMIs, and IEDs.
- Generate control and relay panel specifications and layouts.
- Establish project criteria and develop detailed design specifications, including a complete bill of materials.
- Design AC/DC load centers, batteries, backups, and additional auxiliary systems.
- Oversee the selection and ordering of long‑lead materials.
- Perform point‑to‑point checks to ensure system integrity.
- Review and offer constructive feedback on junior engineers' designs, ensuring they align with client standards.
- Maintain documentation of QA/QC reviews and communicate effectively with the team.
- Travel to various offices, meet with clients, and attend project meetings regularly.
- Manage multiple projects in accordance with GAI's high standards of project management.
- Assist in developing project scopes and cost estimates.
- Utilize sound engineering judgment to address competing priorities effectively.
- Adapt to shifting deadlines and changes in project scope.
- Identify potential project barriers and take proactive measures to avoid schedule impacts.
- Be prepared to work extended hours when required.
- Capable of working in a professional office environment.
- Ability to sit for long periods while performing various computer‑based tasks.
- Proficient in using hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment.
- Visual acuity for reading digital screens and detailed documents.
- Some standing, walking, and bending will be necessary to navigate the office.
- Must have the strength to lift office materials or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Good hearing ability to participate in conversations and meetings.
- Willingness to travel for meetings and training as needed.
- Possesses a strong foundation in engineering principles and practices.
- Independently evaluates and adapts standard procedures and techniques.
- Leads projects with moderately complex scopes and develops various documents.
- Utilizes engineering economics, probability, and statistics for risk analysis.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
- Design comprehensive projects and prepare all necessary documentation.
- Conduct analyses and interpret test data for projects.
- Develop and review project documents for quality assurance.
- Assign tasks and coordinate detailed engineering activities.
- Assist in proposal development for research and engineering projects.
- Work under general direction with guidance for complex issues.
- Mentor junior staff by providing direction and reviewing their outputs.
- Engage in project meetings and convey relevant engineering information.
- Effectively communicate to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
