Duties
* Technical Advisor to the Detachment Commander-Subject matter expert who clearly understands the science and technical details of: the airborne nuclear materials collection, the analysis, the field analysis equipment, and the supporting maintenance equipment used to analyze airborne samples.
* Training and Oversight-Ensures all personnel in the Detachment are trained on the technical science behind the operational missions to include atomic and nuclear phenomena, radiation, chemistry, physics, and meteorological transport.
* Technical Management-Applies knowledge of nuclear physics, chemistry, and meteorological transport to the development of test criteria and the development of test plans in support of acquisition efforts to obtain new airborne collection and field analysis equipment.
* Software Development-Develops software tools using primarily Python, C++, Gamma vision, R, and SQL on Windows and Linux operating systems to improve the operation, maintenance, and data products produced by the collection and analysis software. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.

* The employee will be required to go TDY for weeks to months at a time in support of airborne collection operations and will be the materilas technical expert who oversees the technical analysis.
* The employee will be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
* Advanced technical degree, at the post-graduate level, is highly desired.
* This is a key position. Incumbent must be removed from any military recall status if alternatives are not available for filling this position during an emergency are not available. Qualifications This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level.
The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. This is an interdisciplinary position that may be filled as a Nuclear Engineer/ Physical Scientist/Chemist, GG-0840/1310/ order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions for the GG-0840, Professional Engineering Series or GG-1310, Physics Series, or GG-1320, Chemistry Series INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATION REQUIREMENT: GG-0840-13, Nuclear Engineer
A. A degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics;
(b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
