Our laboratory is seeking a motivated and driven Medical Laboratory Assistant Manager who is ready to help develop and maintain a high‑performing clinical laboratory. This role works closely with the Laboratory Manager to coordinate laboratory operations, support staff development, and ensure the laboratory follows industry best practices in quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to laboratory organization and process improvement, and play a key leadership role in supporting both staff and operational success.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Operations- Support the Laboratory Manager in coordinating daily laboratory operations and workflow.
- Demonstrate accountability for laboratory performance and operational efficiency.
- Monitor staffing and workflow to maintain timely and accurate test turnaround.
- Ensure laboratory testing procedures follow established policies, best practices, and regulatory standards.
- Identify workflow challenges and implement process improvements.
- Assist with equipment oversight, supplies, and inventory management.
- Provide day‑to‑day supervision and support for laboratory staff.
- Assist with staff scheduling, competency evaluations, and training.
- Mentor team members and promote professional growth and accountability.
- Foster a positive team culture focused on collaboration and service excellence.
- Support laboratory quality assurance and service excellence initiatives.
- Assist with internal audits and preparation for external inspections.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA requirements.
- Reinforce proper safety procedures and specimen handling practices.
- Maintain laboratory documentation and operational records.
- Coordinate communication between laboratory staff, providers, and other departments.
- Assist the Laboratory Manager with department organization and operational planning.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or a related field.
- MLT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) Certification preferred.
- 3-5 years in a hospital laboratory.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with the use and limitation of laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Familiar with standard laboratory methods and procedures for collection and processing of lab samples.
- Good working knowledge of various fields of specialty in the laboratory.
- Must be able to share evening and weekend call, with response time within 30 minutes.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to generate, read, interpret, and take action as it relates to basic financial statements, national and state regulations, safety rulings, operational and maintenance and organizational policies / procedures.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to patients, families, employees, health care providers, etc…
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships with staff and health care providers.
- Ability to work with skill in identifying problems; making frequent decisions regarding method of performance.
- Calculator, computer and printer, fax and copy machine, general office materials/supplies, information systems, telephone system, patient care equipment.
- Computers, glucometers, POC coagulation analyzer, laboratory instrumentation.
This position is a clinical laboratory setting with exposure to biological specimens and laboratory chemicals. Occasional evening, weekend, or on‑call coverage may be required depending on operational needs.
