Shift Details:
Flexibility required to provide 911 on-call coverage 1–2 days per week from 3:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, including occasional weekends, as well as availability to assist with patient transfers to other facilities.

Performs various patient care activities both inside and outside the hospital setting. Drives emergency vehicles. Performs these duties in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Nebraska Department of Health, Nebraska Emergency Medical Services, Nebraska Department of Transportation and Providence Medical Center.
Essential Functions- Must be in the emergency vehicle within ten minutes of an emergency page.
- Drives emergency vehicles safely and according to the law to meet situation requirements.
- Be knowledgeable and adheres to hospital and ambulance policies and procedures.
- Provides quality patient care that falls within their scope of practice.
- Uses the following criteria to determine the best route:
- Weather
- Time of the day
- Detours
- Is proficient in driving, approaching, parking and leaving the scene in a safe manner.
- Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other medical procedures following the standards of care, policies and procedures.
- Is proficient in the use of all ambulance equipment including, but not limited to splints, cervical collars, backboards, and suction devices.
- Initiates, receives and maintains radio communications with law enforcement, fire departments, hospitals and other emergency services.
- Transports patients safely to appropriate medical facility. Controls the emergency scene protecting the patient, fellow workers, bystanders and yourself.
- Has the ability to recognize hazardous materials and applies proper procedures and precautions.
- Is able to recognize emergency scene and if necessary, requests assistance from the hospital, law enforcement, fire departments, other ambulance/ rescue services and utility services.
- Works cooperatively with law enforcement, fire departments, other rescue departments, hospital personnel and other emergency service personnel.
- Completes patient assessment by examination and gathering information from the patient and others on the scene.
- Must use universal precautions.
- Notifies Ambulance Supervisor of deficiencies, shortages or any other problems with emergency vehicles or their contents, or of any injuries sustained while on duty.
- Refuels emergency vehicles after out of town transfers, or as needed.
- Completes NARSIS Patient Encounter Form (BLS) and all required forms in a clear, articulate and timely manner.
- Abides by and upholds the ethics of conduct promulgated by this facility.
- Works well with others and communicates effectively.
- Wears protective clothing when required by the situation.
- Is responsible to keep all certifications valid.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function of the job.
- Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess an active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
- Must have completed and passed the Nebraska Emergency Vehicle Operator’s course through the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division, or attend in house training from a certified EMS Instructor on Emergency Vehicle Operations until able to attend the Nebraska Emergency Vehicle Operators Course through the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division.
- Must possess an active Emergency Medical Technician License or actively pursuing license with Medical Director’s approval.
- Experience
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Driving record must reflect safety, responsibility and competency.
- On Call Requirements
- 10 minutes response time for 911.
- 30 minute response time for patient transfers.
