Full-time, 30-40 hours/week, 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday

On-call required, may include weekends and holidays.

Eligible for a sign-on bonus!

Non-certified Surgical Tech, $2,000

Certified Surgical Tech, $5,000

Benefited position after 60-day waiting period.

JOB SUMMARY:

The certified surgical technologist works under the supervision of the Director of Surgery. The surgical technician (ST) is a member of the surgical team, who works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the surgery department and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete duties and care in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assists with the orientation and education of staff and students
  • Shares knowledge with other staff and students as appropriate
  • Training new staff as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Attends annual education in-services as required.
  • Supports an environment conducive to professional practice by functioning as a role model and resource person.
  • Complies with attendance requirements.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of safe conditions and safe acts as related to hospital employment
  • Participates in Total Quality Initiative activities
  • Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills through free certifications, in-services, workshops and/or seminars.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duties
  • Must rotate on call and holidays as the department needs.
  • Any or all additional duties as assigned by the Director of Surgery.
  • SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNICIAN:
    • Application of knowledge of the basic concepts necessary for the performance of the duties expected of the certified surgical technologist.
    • Development of the ideals and professional attitude that will promote responsibility as an individual health care professional and as a member of the health care team.
    • Coordination of team efforts to offer the most qualified team support to the surgical patient, the surgeon and all members of the surgical team.
    • Awareness of the patient as an individual, with specific physical psychological and spiritual needs.
    • Adherence to a code of professional behavior that will reflect the ethical, legal, and more responsibilities of each individual health care practitioner.
    • Provide a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient.
    • Respect the patients’ inherent right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
    • Understand the services provided by the surgeon in relation to the patient’s restoration to health and return to the community.
    • Recognize the importance of teamwork, consideration and cooperation.
    • Function efficiently and in a professional manner in all aspects of surgical care, during both routine and special duties and procedures.
    • Apply knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology and of the actions of pharmacological agents in order to individualize patient care.
    • Apply the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care.
