Description

SUMMARY

The Provider administers prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescing, and disabled patients in all areas of Webster County Community Hospital (WCCH). He/she coordinates total nursing care for the patients, participates in patient and care giver education, maintains standards for professional nursing practice, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the WCCH health care team.

This position is guided by the scope of services as defined under the Family Medicine Delineation of Privileges. Additionally, the provider complies with department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital (CAH) requirements, Safety, and Infection Control, and all Federal and State of Nebraska regulations related to the performance of Webster County Community Hospital operations and requirements of the compliance program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Admits, evaluates, diagnoses, and provides generalist medical care to patients of all ages per nursing standards, WCCH policies, and procedures.
  • Provides care to patients in the intensive care setting in compliance with unit polices.
  • Assesses, stabilizes, and determines disposition of patients consistent with WCCH medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
  • Executes stress testing; joint aspiration and injection; removal of skin lesion/mass; foreign body removal; skin biopsy; incision and drainage or aspiration of superficial soft tissue mass; nasal packing; procedures including stabilization of fractures, dislocations, immobilization and reduction techniques; wound management, debridement, suturing/stapling, management of superficial burns including local anesthetic injection; and nail trephination.
  • Provides preliminary interpretation of EKG and imaging results.
  • Initiates treatment under emergent conditions following initial impression of radiology images.
  • Synthesizes pertinent patient data to develop nursing care plans and identifies nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate and provide patient care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in nursing theory and ability to learn and develop competence in patient care across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and ultimately practice in the multiple settings within the CAH.
  • Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient’s plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs.
  • Anticipates patient needs, purposeful rounding on patients routinely and attends to nurse call system and patient alarms.
  • Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions.
  • Evaluates the patient’s response to, and effectiveness of interventions; and patient’s progress toward established outcomes.
  • Provides services to patients in need of emergency diagnosis and care regardless of patient’s ability to pay or to demonstrate financial responsibility and regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion, national origin, or disabling condition.
  • Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.
  • Includes family or significant others in the care of the patient as appropriate.
  • Maintains proper and complete medical records, on a timely basis, of services provided for WCCH patients and submits to designated representative appropriate and necessary information of patient billing.
  • Facilitates patient’s transition to next level of care.
  • Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member’s practices through timely and professional communication.
  • Develops and implements educational training and in-service programs for WCCH employees; and provides professional supervision and training of employees.
  • Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the duties of the job.
  • Assists WCCH in recruitment of physician and non-physician employees.
  • Reviews and initiates revisions to WCCH quality assurance program to ensure that services of appropriate quality are provided in accordance with applicable licensure and reimbursement standards.
