The AVP, IT Architecture is a supervisory and strategic leadership role responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the credit union’s enterprise architecture framework. This position develops and champions standardized processes, technology roadmaps, and architectural principles that align with business objectives, ensure operational resilience, and drive digital transformation. The AVP serves as the chief architect and primary advocate for architectural excellence across the organization.
- Leads the transition from on-prem systems and services to cloud and SaaS platforms, ensuring architectural integrity, security, and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborates with IT and Cybersecurity leadership to influence technology roadmaps, ensuring architectural principles support strategic goals, regulatory compliance, and member experience objectives.
- Promotes and lead architecture governance practices that enable consistent, scalable, and secure technology solutions across IT and business units. Facilitates Architecture Review processes to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Defines and evolves architecture principles technology, data, business and application domains to guide solution design and integration.
- Advocates for pragmatic architecture frameworks and methodologies that fit organizational needs, balancing structure with agility.
- Leads and mentors a team of IT Architects and IT Engineers, fostering a culture of architectural thinking and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Manage relationships with vendors providing architecture tools and advisory services, ensuring value and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Manages department budget, accurately forecasting, tracking and managing financial resources.
- Actively engages team through regular 1:1s, team meetings, performance reviews, and coaching and mentoring.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information systems or related field with 5 years relevant work experience.
- Without a degree, at least 10 years directly applicable relevant leadership and work experience plus relevant technical certifications.
- Minimum 5 years effective experience in leading technical staff and information technology operations.
- TOGAF, Zachman, Archi Mate, or equivalent architecture certification, upon hire or within 6 months of hire.
- Hands‑on leadership of IT projects of moderate complexity with organization‑wide impact; proficient in waterfall and/or Agile methodologies.
- Proven track record leading architecture governance and process standardization in mid‑sized organization.
- Experience with cloud, on‑prem infrastructure, core banking systems, and integration platforms.
- Experience with regulatory frameworks (NCUA, FFIEC, PCI‑DSS, GDPR).
- Experience managing a departmental budget – including forecasting and tracking.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to present ideas/concepts and interact effectively with technical and non‑technical users at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success building partnership between the technology organization and business stakeholders.
- Ability to document processes and workflows, develop reports, business correspondence, and procedures for a diverse audience using common tools such as Visio, and other MS Office products.
- Ability to manage, coach and mentor employees.
- Ability to manage and prioritize effectively and resolve conflicting priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with the ability to summarize detailed information to make actionable recommendations.
- Has knowledge of and adheres to credit union policies and procedures and all regulations related to the bank Secrecy Act, the USA Patriot Act and OFAC.
- Ability to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 4-6 hours per day, when necessary.
- Ability to work the hours needed, which may extend beyond the defined work schedule when operating conditions dictate.
- Ability to travel independently and directly to other TFCU facilities, in compliance with ADA.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance, in compliance with ADA.
