Director, Residential Operations - FT
Under the general direction and supervision of the Vice President of Campus Operations & Development, the Director of Residential Operations provides college-wide leadership and oversight of the operational functions of SCC's multi-campus residence hall program. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, well-maintained, and efficiently managed residential facilities across the Beatrice, Lincoln, and Milford campuses, including budget management, facilities coordination, safety and security protocols, operational procedure development, housing compliance, and direct supervision of resident assistants assigned to operational duties.
The Director of Residential Operations works in close partnership with the Director of Residential Student Experience to ensure a cohesive, well-supported residential environment for all students. This is a full-time regular position requiring regular travel to all three campuses.
Knowledge of residential housing operations in a college or university setting, including facilities management, occupancy management, budget administration, and housing compliance requirements. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing college residential facilities, including Clery Act requirements, fire safety codes, ADA standards, and Fair Housing considerations. Ability to develop, implement, and maintain operational policies, procedures, and systems across multiple locations in a consistent and effective manner.
Demonstrated experience in budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and financial reporting in a complex organizational environment. Ability to coordinate and manage facilities maintenance, capital projects, and vendor contracts, including the ability to evaluate contractor performance and ensure accountability. Competency in housing management software and related technology platforms, with the ability to learn new systems and train staff on operational use. Experience with eRezLife or similar housing management systems preferred.
Ability to assess, document, and process room damage charges accurately and consistently, ensuring appropriate coordination with student accounts and campus partners. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff and student employees, including the ability to set clear performance expectations and hold staff accountable in a fair and equitable manner. Ability to work collaboratively across divisions and departments, building effective working relationships with campus partners, including Facilities, Safety & Security, Financial Services, Admissions, and Student Affairs.
Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and a track record of following through on complex, multi-step operational processes. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear procedural documentation, communicate operational expectations to diverse audiences, and produce accurate reports for institutional leadership. Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and crisis situations, including after-hours and weekend response as required by the nature of residential operations.
Ability to work varied days, hours, and locations across multiple campuses and to travel regularly between the Beatrice, Lincoln, and Milford campuses as required. Demonstrated commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming residential environment for all students, staff, and campus partners. Ability to use basic computer skills. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Education, Facilities Management, Business, Management, Finance, Accounting, Student Affairs, Psychology, Statistics, or a related field of study. Three (3)
* or more years of progressively responsible experience in housing operations, facilities management, or a related field in a college or university setting, including demonstrated experience in budget management, operational procedure development, and staff supervision.
* A related Master's degree in the required fields of study may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.
Salary - $57,185
Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. Summer months represent an active operational period, including management of summer housing, youth camps, and conference operations, and should not be considered a reduced-activity period.
