Assistant Director of Energy & Utilities
Wayne State College is seeking an Assistant Director of Energy & Utilities.
Nature of WorkManage and supervise all aspects of the energy and utilities unit including the institution’s energy plant, heating and cooling systems (HVAC), plumbing, fire/life safety, and electrical systems. Supervise, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate energy and utility staff. Serve as the unit’s leader and develop and implement an effective strategic plan. Exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in assigning, reviewing, and performing work.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the energy and utilities staff to ensure campus infrastructure functions effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee and assess building management systems and electrical infrastructure.
- Serve as an administrator of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for the unit.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the unit, including benchmarking, training, equipment replacement planning, and workload analysis.
- Analyze energy usage data and develop recommendations for energy efficiencies that reduce budget and improve environmental impact.
- Assist staff with campus maintenance workload to meet campus demand.
- Serve as a first responder to after‑hour maintenance calls.
- Research and write federal, state, and private grants associated with energy efficiency.
- Negotiate, monitor, and oversee contracted services and procurement processes.
- Develop and manage the unit’s budgets.
- Ensure compliance with Board policy, city, state, and federal codes, and safety rules.
- Provide the Director of Facility Services with recommendations on unit improvements and efficiencies.
- Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors in coordinating services.
- Maintain technical knowledge, resourcefulness, initiative, mature judgment, leadership, and strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Practice innovative problem solving.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Facility Services.
- Fill in as needed for the Director in his/her absence.
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience, or an Associate’s degree and 4 years of related experience, or 6 years of related experience.
- 1 year of supervisory level experience.
