A Brief Summary Of This Position

As a vital member of the Global Engineered Manufacturing Solutions (GEMS) team, the Fabrication Technician plays a crucial role in the fabrication, installation, and servicing of complex, proprietary manufacturing systems that support operations worldwide. The Fabrication Technician is responsible to accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to fabricate components and assemblies that meet precise standards. Utilize various industrial tools and equipment to achieve desired results, ensuring high-quality workmanship.

Additional responsibilities include servicing and maintaining installed systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity, executing rigging and lifting operations safely and efficiently, both in the shop and in field environments, working with complex hydraulic equipment—including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems—and operating powered industrial equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts. Technicians are expected to grow their skills and prepare for advancement.

This position requires domestic and international travel, including overnight stays.

Shift

1st Shift – Monday–Thursday – 6:00 am–4:00 pm

Compensation

$30+ per hour

Essential Functions
  • Reports to the Operations Manager and has no direct reports.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 25% for periods up to two weeks consecutively.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to understand project specifications and requirements.
  • Fabricate custom components and assemblies using a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Perform welding tasks, including GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW welding, ensuring strong, precise welds that meet project specifications.
  • Use tools such as saws, shears, and plasma cutters to accurately cut and shape materials.
  • Assemble fabricated parts into final products or subassemblies, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and function.
  • Rig and move heavy loads using cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment, following all safety protocols.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain and perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Apply industrial math skills—including measurements, calculations for cutting and assembly, geometric and trigonometric computations, and conversions between metric and imperial units—to ensure precision in fabrication tasks.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials and equipment.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to pass demonstration and knowledge test relative to mechanical knowledge and welding.
  • Ability to safely learn to operate saw, iron worker, shear, cutting torch, drill press, lathe, and mill, brake press.
  • Must be able to operate powered industrial equipment, including forklifts and scissor lifts.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints as well as work from verbal instructions.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • Graduate of a manufacturing‑related technical training program or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., machining).
Working Environment & Physical Effort

Average weight of objects handled is 30 lbs. This position requires constant standing and frequent walking. Lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching above shoulder level are required. The incumbent must also be able to reach outward and use hand/finger manipulation throughout the course of work. This person may occasionally be required to climb poles at the EPD test site.
