Location DescriptionMichael Foods, Inc., located in Bloomfield, Nebraska, is one of our only cage‑free facilities located three miles outside the Northeast Nebraska’s busiest community. Bloomfield is a haven for those who prefer small‑town life over city living and is located less than 30 miles from recreation areas where you can enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, and camping. Our location produces liquid egg product that is sent to our other facilities for further processing.
ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
:
Responsible for working with all aspects of our pullet houses to provide an excellent environment and quality care for our laying hens.
- Ensure pullets have proper water, feed, temperature, and clean house.
- Keep daily UEP records on water, feed, mortality, ventilation, and maintenance.
- Work closely with Lead and Pullet Supervisor.
- Move birds as needed.
- Maintain all feed chains.
- Replace and maintain all light bulbs.
- Clean and protect fans, motors, and screens with shields or guards.
- Run daily bird runs.
- Perform maintenance and repair work immediately; contact lead or supervisor if problems arise.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Run manure belts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
No prior experience or training required.
ExperiencePrevious experience with animal care is preferred.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
OtherSkills And Abilities
- Free of asthma conditions; dusty conditions prevail.
- Ability to work on ladders and climb steps as needed.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks.
- Ability to stand most of shift and walk the 550’ long buildings numerous times per day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
