Pastoral Team Member - Children Ministry

About the role

Provides pastoral and ministry leadership for Wesley's Children's Ministry by nurturing the faith development of children, volunteers and church members, working alongside the ministry chairperson, supervising pastor and Lay Leader Representative. Provides oversight for leadership development, biblical teaching, volunteer formation, ministry programmes and connectional partnerships, with the aim of seeing children know God and volunteers grow into maturity for Christ and bear fruit in Christlikeness.

• Provide spiritual guidance, care and encouragement for volunteers and church members.
• Nurture and mentor potential leaders.
• Conduct pastoral conversations with new members from the Baptism & Membership Class and S.H.A.P.E. participants.
• Provide pastoral guidance and care for children who show struggling behaviours or face challenges, including parent/guardian engagement where necessary.
• Conduct hospital, wake and funeral visits pertaining to CM volunteers, children and their families.

• Provide leadership alongside the ministry’s Chairperson, supervising Pastor and Lay Leader Representative.
• Facilitate leaders’ meetings and retreats and participate in ministry budget planning.
• Recruit, place and follow up volunteers to build a motivated and well-trained volunteer team.
• Submit reports on ministry progress at MTM, LCEC and TRAC (BOCM) levels.
• Supervise and empower the ATMs to serve optimally.

• Develop and sustain a four-year contextualised curriculum for Children’s Church across the 2-6yo, 7-8yo and 9-10yo groups with the help of volunteers.
• Review and adapt curriculum to support good Bible knowledge and the faith development of children.

• Teach God’s Word and/or lead worship periodically at Children’s Church on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Conduct and arrange regular training for children and volunteers on ministry-related issues.
• Equip volunteers with the right attitude and skills to serve well

• Plan and run events such as camps and retreats for children and volunteers.
• Coordinate and facilitate meaningful opportunities for children to be involved in Intergenerational Services and Next Gen Weekend.
• Organise parent talks to support parents/guardians in the faith formation of children.

• Recruit, place, mentor and follow up with volunteers according to ministry needs and gifts.
• Motivate volunteers and provide biblical perspectives to guide them in their ministry and service.
• Build a team of motivated and well-trained volunteers so that each department, programme and activity meets its objectives.

• Collaborate with other ministries in Wesley, including Family Life, BeTween, Youth Ministry, Counselling, Social Concerns and Missions, etc, as appropriate.
• Share ministry resources and support one another as members of the same body.

• Represent Wesley Methodist Church at the TRAC Board of Children’s Ministry (BOCM) and participate in relevant networking events.

Connect with other Methodist churches and ministry partners through joint events and ministry partnerships.
