Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, using appropriate age and population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per the care plan.

The LPN evaluates data reflective of the resident’s status, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation. The LPN ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributes to the assessment of residents, administers medications or treatments as ordered, and provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. The LPN documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary, and maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.

The LPN communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality of sensitive information, counsels residents, family members, and/or resident advocates, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Perform nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care.
  • Assess residents and assist with medication administration or treatments as ordered.
  • Document resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Provide technical support to healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain effective relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsel residents, family members, and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, must have graduated from a Board‑approved AASPN program with IV therapy in the curriculum or completed an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • Have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or have a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
  • Currently hold an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with a State Nursing board and/or possess multi‑state licensure privileges.
  • Obtain and subsequently maintain required departmental specific competencies and certifications.
  • Complete required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
