Position: RN-LABOR/DELIVERY / OB & MED-SURG
Location: Holdrege

MUST HAVE LABOR AND DELIVERY EXPERIENCE! The Registered Nurse manages, organizes and administers nursing care for patients of all ages under the supervision of the Physician. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.

Essential Functions
  • Assess data regarding the patient's physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs based upon the patient's age and development, for patients of all ages.
  • Report and document all observed symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient's condition.
  • Utilize the nursing process to direct and deliver patient care; develop, implement, revise, and evaluate a formal plan of care.
  • Administer medications using the "Five Rights of Medication Administration".
  • Provide and instruct patients and/or their families with educational information appropriate for age and learning abilities.
  • Create and maintain a comfortable and safe environment for patients, families, and visitors.
  • Organize and prioritize daily assignments to provide optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrate competency annually in assigned areas of work.
  • Maintain patient and employee confidentiality at all times.
  • Comply with PMHC Code of Conduct.
  • Charge Nurse Responsibilities
  • Assign licensed and non‑licensed staff to care for patients according to patient needs and skill level of available staff.
  • Coach staff to develop and demonstrate appropriate problem‑solving behaviors and teach methods to improve decision‑making skills.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance and lead and/or participate in performance improvement teams.
  • Recognize life‑threatening patient complications or situations and respond immediately by initiating and participating in emergency procedures.
  • Work to maintain a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
  • Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance, and taste or smell.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works with explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    The level of risk of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens is Classification (I), as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.

    Required Education
  • Bachelors degree (B.S.N.), Associates degree (A.D.N.) or Diploma from an accredited college of nursing.
  • Competencies and Certifications Required
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current NRP certification (for RNs assigned to the Obstetrics Department).
  • Shift Details

    Shift: 5:45 p‑6 a, 2 out of 3 weekends, block scheduling available, 3 shift call off with no charge based on patient census.
