SummaryA Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients who are transitioning from intensive care to medical‑surgical or general inpatient units. The role requires frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions, including assessment, medication administration, and collaborative care with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Work Functions- Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments with a focus on cardiac care.
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during cardiac‑related procedures and examinations.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients.
- Observes and records significant conditions, notifying supervisors or physicians of patient status and intervention outcomes.
- Responds to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols specific to cardiac emergencies.
- Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned telemetry patients.
- Initiates patient education plans focused on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team for comprehensive care of telemetry patients.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to hospital safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
- Performs other duties assigned within the scope of practice.
- One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN.
- Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
- Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC).
- Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC).
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification.
- NIHSS Certification.
- Other certifications and licenses as required.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and excellent interpersonal communication.
- Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
- PC skills proficiency.
- Remain in a stationary position and move about, including moving equipment up to 100 pounds.
- Push, pull, and bend as needed.
- Work effectively with diverse personnel, maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Fine manipulation, push/pull, and mobility when assisting with procedures or using department equipment.
- Handle frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure.
- Work under close supervision occasionally or independently.
- Adapt to irregular activity schedules with continuous concentration on detail.
