Provides direct and indirect patient care with the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Is responsible for ensuring continuity of care between shifts by understanding patient needs, supervising auxiliary staff and carrying out physician’s orders for a designated group of patients. This position with Brodstone Healthcare is for night shift.

- Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department in accordance with the scope of practice for the state of Nebraska.
- Participates in assessment of patient needs and implements plan of nursing care based on the assessment and goals established by the health care team and communicates changes in prescribed plan of care to RN. Utilizes nursing care plans/standards in delivery and documentation of patient care.
- Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to RN including patients’ behavioral and psychological status and records those observations accurately and concisely.
- Provides direct nursing care to patients as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
- Receives report and makes observations on all assigned patients at the beginning of the shift.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medications and administers medications according to policy/procedure and documents time, type, amount, etc. on patients’ chart.
- Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
- Performs and documents treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider and/or as instructed and supervised by the RN in accordance with current policy/procedure.
- Participates in nursing care conferences, development of nursing care plans, and hand-off report to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Assists providers with exams, treatments and procedures as needed.
- Completes and documents patient rounding per policy to assess for changes in patient condition.
- Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility in care and use of equipment and supplies. Informs immediate supervisor of needed supplies and equipment or malfunction of equipment.
- Ability to operate computer systems applicable to assigned duties.
- Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Establishes and participates in patient and family education.
- Recognizes adverse patient events and responds to emergency situations per hospital policy.
- Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Follows Standard Precautions as prescribed in hospital policies/procedures.
- Observes, evaluates and documents care given as well as the patients’ physical and emotional condition, response to drugs or treatments, including side effects, desired response and contraindications according to hospital policy/procedures.
- Makes patient referrals to social service/case managers as needed.
- Assures continuity of nursing care through modalities such as hand-off report and nursing care plans.
- Maintains a pleasant and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room.
- Has ability to work with a variety of patients, regardless of various racial, ethnic or sociological background or disability.
- May be assigned as staffing requires to all areas of care including Medical/Surgical, Skilled care, Obstetrical, Nursery, Postpartum, Emergency department, or Outpatient Services in addition to above duties and responsibilities.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare quality improvement program, and maintains ongoing education to upgrade professional skills and ensure nursing licensure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Associates Degree required. - Experience (Preferred): 1–2 years of experience working in the in‑patient setting.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (Required):
Current Nebraska LPN license or multi-state LPN license; - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days after employment;
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of employment;
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of employment;
- STABLE certification within 12 months of employment;
- NIHSS certification within 180 days after employment.
