Job SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long-term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, and performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed.
The LPN recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in emergent situations. The LPN ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents, contributes to assessment, administers medications or treatments as ordered, provides technical support to healthcare professionals, documents resident interactions, and maintains effective relationships with residents, providers, and the public. The LPN communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality, counsels residents, family, and advocates under RN direction, and develops a self-care program based on resident education principles.
The LPN performs other related duties as assigned.
- Provide professional nursing care for residents under RN supervision.
- Perform nursing assessments and contribute to care plan development.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as ordered.
- Recognize and respond to emergent situations.
- Document resident interactions and outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team and maintain confidentiality.
- Advise residents, families, and advocates on prevention and treatment plans.
- Develop a self-care program for residents.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
- If position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduate from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or complete an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Have an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
- Possess at least 400 hours of LPN experience or completed pre-licensure nursing program with supervised clinical experience across the lifespan.
- Obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.
- Complete required annual CEU and competency training.
