The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The role includes age‑appropriate care related to the resident’s physical and psychological needs as outlined in the care plan and infection prevention and control policies, as well as PPE use.
Key responsibilities include bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign monitoring, psychosocial support, transfer assistance, repositioning, walking, and passive exercises. The NA also contributes to food preparation, dining experiences, meal assistance, and hydration support. Assisting providers with procedures, documenting resident interactions, and communicating changes in resident status to the charge nurse are additional duties. The role covers housekeeping, laundry support, wellness and recreational program participation, and may involve departmental/organization committees and task forces.

- Travel required to support multiple locations within a 150‑mile radius of permanent address
- Mileage reimbursement provided for required travel
- Premium pay: $5.00 per hour on all hours worked
- Weekend shift differential: $1.25 per hour
- Evening/night shift differential (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM): $1.25 per hour
- 3 months of experience in long‑term care required (6 months preferred)
- Minimum of 30 hours per month
- One weekend shift per month
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required
- Minimum age 18 years
- Prior clinical or nursing‑assistant experience in long‑term care preferred
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state‑certified CNA within four months of starting the position by enrolling in a training program or in the process of endorsement; CNA training and certification is provided by the facility
- Colorado:
Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP) certification with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment required, depending on facility - Satisfactory completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintenance of a record of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually)
- Maintaining all department‑specific required certifications
- For applicable states, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry
- Dependent on facility responsibilities, may classify as a Sanford Category II driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy
