About the Role:

The Feedlot Operator 1 plays a critical role in the daily management and care of livestock within a feedlot environment, ensuring the health, safety, and productivity of the animals. This position involves monitoring animal behavior, feeding routines, and environmental conditions to optimize growth and welfare. The operator is responsible for maintaining clean and safe facilities, managing feed inventory, and assisting with the implementation of health protocols.

Through diligent observation and timely reporting, the Feedlot Operator 1 helps prevent disease outbreaks and supports overall operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role contributes directly to the success of the feedlot by promoting sustainable and humane livestock management practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with livestock or in an agricultural setting is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, walking, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of animal care and safety procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating farm or feedlot machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of livestock nutrition and feeding practices.
  • Familiarity with animal health and biosecurity protocols.
  • Certification in animal handling or agricultural safety training.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and care for livestock by observing animal behavior, health, and well-being on a daily basis.
  • Administer feed and water according to established schedules and nutritional guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of pens, feeding equipment, and surrounding areas to ensure a healthy environment.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of animals during transport and manage related documentation.
  • Report any signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior to supervisors promptly.
  • Operate and maintain feedlot equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Support the implementation of biosecurity and health protocols to prevent disease spread.
  • Record and track feed consumption, animal weights, and other relevant data accurately.

The Feedlot Operator 1 utilizes strong observational skills daily to monitor animal health and behavior, ensuring early detection of any issues. Physical stamina and manual dexterity are essential for handling livestock, operating equipment, and maintaining the feedlot environment. Effective communication skills enable the operator to report concerns clearly and collaborate with team members and supervisors. Basic record-keeping and data entry skills are used to track feed usage and animal growth metrics accurately.

Additionally, knowledge of safety and biosecurity practices is applied consistently to maintain a secure and healthy operation.
