We are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier / Wine Steward to enhance our guest experience and lead our wine and beverage program. The role involves personalized guest service, inventory and menu management, staff training, and hosting wine-related events in a fine-dining environment.
Key Responsibilities Guest Service & Interaction- Provide expert, personalized wine, beer, and spirit recommendations based on guest preferences, budgets, and meal choices.
- Engage guests in an approachable, friendly manner, sharing wine knowledge without being perceived as “overbearing.”
- Serve all beverages correctly using proper glassware, temperature, presentation, and pouring techniques.
- Collaborate with restaurant service team to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintain highest hygiene standards in beverage preparation, storage, and handling.
- Adhere to bar standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Curate, maintain, and update a profitable wine list that complements the restaurant’s cuisine.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary team to develop harmonious food and wine pairings.
- Develop new beverage menus, including cocktails, sake, and non‑alcoholic options where applicable.
- Manage wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, proper storage, and preservation.
- Build strong relationships with wine vendors and distributors to secure high‑quality stock and favorable deals.
- Monitor beverage costs (COGS), manage budgets, and minimize waste or shrinkage.
- Conduct regular, accurate inventory counts and maintain stock at par levels.
- Conduct ongoing training for staff on wine and beverage knowledge, service etiquette, and upselling techniques.
- Mentor front‑of‑house staff to confidently discuss and sell wines to guests.
- Host and organize wine tastings, private dinners, or educational seminars to promote the wine program.
- Ensure strict compliance with local alcohol handling laws, health, and safety regulations, including age verification.
- Maintain a professional appearance, punctuality, and grooming standards at all times.
- Experience:
2–5 years as a Sommelier or Wine Steward in high‑volume or fine‑dining establishments. - Knowledge:
In‑depth knowledge of global wines, grape varietals, regions, vintages, production methods, and market trends. - Certifications:
WSET Level 2/3 or Court of Master Sommeliers (Introductory or Certified) preferred.
