Research Assistant - TRC

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of stimuli and development of appropriate test procedures.
• Assists in the preparation of research tools, data collection, and procedures in studies involving animals or human subjects.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation of laboratory conditions and specimen results.
• Maintains a detailed record of test conditions and outcomes.
• Assists in the calibration, maintenance, and cleaning of laboratory equipment and work spaces.
• Assists in data collection, analysis, and reporting of findings to the principal investigator and involved staff.
• Assists in the design, construction, and maintenance of electronic devices used in laboratories, including PCs, audio equipment, and special‑purpose interfaces.
• Participates in the recruitment, scheduling, and testing of research studies involving animals or human subjects.
• Uses computers to analyze and plot results of experiments.

• Knowledge of psychology, speech & hearing, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and/or computer science gained through coursework.
• Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment and electronic devices.
• Proficiency with personal computers and audio equipment.
• Mathematical aptitude for performing data analyses and generating results.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work directly with laboratory staff and principal investigators.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and flexibility in performing varied duties.
• Willingness to participate in continuing education on laboratory safety practices.

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum of one year of college coursework or equivalent experience.
• Depending on the assignment, bilingual skills may be required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire (if assigned to the Cognitive Neuroscience department).
• Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire.

• Coursework emphasizing psychology, speech & hearing, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, or a related research area.
• Demonstrated care and respect for others.
