Maintenance Worker I - FT
Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Maintenance Worker I performs general building maintenance and other various functions independently, collaborates with and supervises student employees, and assists other plant personnel in carrying out their functions. This position assists with all of the various types of building and general maintenance, facility construction, grounds maintenance, and equipment/furniture moving, with an emphasis on dormitory facility maintenance.
Responsible for keeping records of materials used, estimating the time and materials used for jobs. This is a full‑time regular position.
Building Maintenance (Daily duties)
- Repair and replace doors, windows.
- Repair and replace floors; carpet, ceramic, and LVT tile.
- Repair and replace suspended ceiling tile and grid.
- Repair and replace drywall.
- Paint/stain walls, ceiling, and trim.
- Make minor plumbing, electrical, and heating/AC repairs.
- Repair furniture.
- Move equipment and furniture.
Other Duties
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and electronically, with supervisor, staff, faculty, students, and patrons.
- Responsible for safe operation of hand tools, equipment while performing various essential functions of the position. Hand tools such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, nut drivers, wrenches, socket wrenches, read tape measure. Power tools such as drills, drill drivers, and saws.
- Responsible for the safe operation of equipment while performing various essential functions of the position. Equipment such as: tractor/loader, tractor/blade, forklift, pickup with trailer, dump truck, skid loader and various attachments, wheel loader, zero turn mower.
- Must be able/licensed to operate College vehicles to transport equipment and materials to various work sites.

Marginal Functions- Remove snow from walks, steps, parking areas and roadways.
- Collect and haul trash to dumpsters.
- Operate a jackhammer.
- Assist with Carpentry and locksmithing, Plumbing, Electrical, Renovation, and Landscape projects.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/location) are determined by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of general building maintenance practices, including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, flooring, and basic facility repairs.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and heating/air conditioning systems sufficient to perform minor repairs and maintenance.
- Ability to read, understand, and/or follow directions related to work orders and hazardous materials.
- Communicate with supervisor, campus staff, and student workers, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting and moving techniques.
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate equipment and power hand tools after appropriate instructions.
- Knowledge and skill to perform general building maintenance functions.
- Ability to use tools and equipment related to building/facility maintenance.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using established practices, procedures, and policies of the College and directives of the supervisor.
