Sr. Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Sr. Maintenance Technician is a maintenance crew member responsible for electrical-mechanical maintenance and installation, instrumentation, controls, frequency drives, and mechanical troubleshooting and repair. The primary goal is to assure safe and efficient production by responding to changing conditions in a timely manner.

• Working in all areas of the plant:
  • Troubleshooting and repair of pumps and auto valves (emphasis)
  • Troubleshooting and repair of grain system (emphasis)
  • Performing preventative maintenance
  • Some knowledge or ability to learn in the following areas:
    • Instrumentation and electrical repair and troubleshooting
    • Electrical repairs: motors, motor starters, running conduit and wire pulling
    • Troubleshooting and repair of PLC/DCS
• 10-20% of the position involves electrical repairs and installations; 80-90% involves mechanical repairs and installations.
• Moves, sets, and calibrates controls such as knobs, valves, switches, levers, and index arms on control panels to regulate process variables like flows, temperatures, pressures, vacuum, time, and chemicals by automatic regulation and remote control of processing units such as heaters, coolers, thermal oxidizer, compressors, exchangers, and other units.
• Determines malfunctioning units by observing control instruments (meters and gauges) or automatic warning signals (lights and horns).
• Inspects equipment to determine the location and nature of malfunctions such as leaks, breakages, faulty valves, and pumps.
• Determines repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Patrols units to verify safe and efficient operating conditions.
• Lubricates equipment.
• Utilizes predictive technology such as thermography, vibration, and sonic tools to determine malfunctioning units.

• 3+ years of mechanical/ electrical experience or a Maintenance Technician degree.
• High School Diploma or GED required; preference for a Maintenance Technician degree.
• Familiarity with industrial equipment operations and care.
• Experience with Arc and MIG‑Tig welding.
• Mechanical background with bearing changes, pumps, conveyors, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in planning, organizing, and interpersonal communications.
• Strong electrical experience required.
• PLC/DCS knowledge.
• Knowledge of Hart Communication Systems, Profibus wiring and communication methods, and Device‑net.
• Ability to read and update electrical prints.
• Understanding of discrete and analog systems.
• Pneumatic and hydraulic experience strongly preferred.

• Must be able to manage confined space entry, climb ladders and steps, lift up to 60 lbs, and work at heights.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Regular exposure to dusty conditions.
• Regular exposure to high noise environments.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather in all conditions.
• Regular exposure to chemicals used in the process.
