Diesel Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Cordova

Job Description

We are currently seeking an individual to fill a position as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic who will perform repairs, routine maintenance, and inspections on a wide variety of construction, asphalt paving and mining equipment.

• Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identify worn and damaged parts.
• Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing components and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
• Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub‑assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
• Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
• Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
• Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
• Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Contain costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
• Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; notifying parts manager; verifying receipt.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
• Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

• Uncompromising focus on safety excellence.
• Minimum of one year verifiable experience working on diesel, and heavy equipment.
• Must have own hand tools.
• Must have a good working knowledge of the equipment operations and mechanical functions, electrical and hydraulic systems and how they are integrated.
• Ability to stop, push, pull, kneel, twist and lift 70 lbs.
• Ability to climb and perform work on heights of 20 feet.
• Able to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
• Availability to work Saturdays when needed.
• Capable of working with limited supervision.
• A valid Driver License with relatively clean record.
• Pre‑employment criminal background, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and drug test will apply.
• CDL not required but is an plus.
