The City of Waverly is seeking a dependable individual to fill an entry-level Public Works Worker I position. Under the direction of the Public Works Director, this position assists with the maintenance and operation of City streets, parks, the cemetery, utilities, and other public facilities. Duties include operating equipment, performing maintenance and repairs, responding to weather events and emergencies, and helping keep City infrastructure safe and well maintained.
EssentialDuties
- Maintain and repair City streets, curbs, sidewalks, and other public infrastructure.
- Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, and snow removal equipment.
- Perform general maintenance on City vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with mowing, trimming, and maintaining parks and the cemetery.
- Help maintain the City's water and wastewater systems as needed.
- Assist with maintenance and repairs at the Aquatic Center and other City facilities.
- Respond to snow removal operations, emergency situations, and after-hours calls as needed.
- Participate in rotating weekend utility checks and on-call duties.
- Work safely and provide courteous service to the public.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- No previous public works experience is required. Experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping, or operating equipment is helpful but not required. Training will be provided.
- CDL and Water/Wastewater Operator certifications are a plus but may be obtained after hire.
- Ability to pass required background, medical, and drug screenings.
This position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions and requires frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 75 pounds occasionally.
Schedule- Monday through Friday
- 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Rotating weekend utility checks and on-call responsibilities.
- Overtime may be required during snow events, emergencies, or other City needs.
