The Principal Software Engineer/Developer supports United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) programs by leading and executing design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of software solutions in a secure, mission-focused environment. This position participates across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with an emphasis on software engineering, technical leadership, and Agile delivery. The Principal Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, mentors other developers as needed, and routinely demonstrates progress to stakeholders and customers.
Essential Functions /

Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead and perform software engineering tasks across the SDLC including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment support, and sustainment.
• Develop and maintain full-stack applications with emphasis on Java-based solutions and scalable, maintainable architectures.
• Collaborate with software designers/engineers to plan, design, and implement software systems; recommend approaches aligned to mission needs and constraints.
• Work independently and as part of an Agile team to deliver increments on schedule and to quality standards.
• Regularly demonstrate working software, communicate status, and incorporate customer feedback into iteration planning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues; propose innovative solutions to challenging problems.
• Implement and support automated testing practices (unit, integration) and tools (e.g., QFTest) to improve quality and reliability.
• Work effectively in Linux and Windows environments; integrate with relational databases (Oracle/PDBs) using SQL.
• Apply configuration management practices; support code reviews, documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Support team outcomes through collaboration, clear communication, and prioritization.

Required Qualifications
• Experience as a Full Stack Software Developer/Engineer.
• Demonstrated experience developing in Java.
• Proven experience working in Linux and Windows environments.
• Familiarity with relational databases (Oracle/PDBs) and SQL.
• Working knowledge of Agile development processes.
• Familiarity with test automation practices and tools (unit testing, integration testing, QFTest).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with small technical teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to achieve project results.
• Ability to work full-time on-site at Offutt AFB, NE and maintain required access.
• Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. DoD Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
• Experience with enterprise database environments.
• Dev Ops / Dev Sec Ops  experience.
• CI/CD experience, including Jenkins pipeline/build setup.
• Experience with software quality/security tools such as Sonar Qube.
• Experience using IDEs and configuration management/source control tools (e.g., SVN, Bitbucket). Education / Experience (Principal Level — Meets One)
• High School Diploma + 9+ years of software development experience, or
• Bachelor of Science in a STEM field + 5+ years of software development experience, or
• Master of Science in a STEM field + 3+ years of software development experience. Working Conditions
• Work is performed primarily on-site in a secure government environment at Offutt AFB.
• Candidate must comply with all security, access, and onsite requirements.
• Standard office/secure lab environment; may require extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
